A Bi-Directional DC- DC Converter with Adaptive Fuzzy Logic Controller

Abstract:

This paper introduces a Bi-directional DC-DC converter with adaptive fuzzy logic controller (AFLC).Bidirectional power flow is obtained by same power components and provides a simple, efficient, and galvanically isolated converter. In the presence of DC mains the converter operates as buck converter. Powers the down stream converter and also charges the battery. When the DC mains fails, the converter operates as boost converter and the down stream converter is fed by the battery. In both the modes the power switches are controlled by Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) technique and the pulses are generated by the application of fuzzy logic with an adoption algorithm. The proposed converter is simulated using MATLAB and laboratory prototype is developed to validate the simulation results.

N.Rajarajeswari, born in Salem District , TamilNadu State, India in 1979, received the BE in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Bharathiyar University, Coimbatore. M.E from Anna  University, Chennai in 2001 and 2004 respectively. Currently doing PhD in Electrical and Electronics Engineering under Anna University, Chennai.Her research interests lie in the area of Computer Simulation, Power Electronics and DC drives.

 

K. Thanushkodi, born in Theni District , TamilNadu State, India in 1948, received the BE in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Madras University, Chennai. MSc (Engg) from Madras University, Chennai and PhD in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Bharathiar University, Coimbatore in 1972, 1976 and 1991 respectively. His research interests lie in the area of Computer Modeling and Simulation, Computer Networking and Power System. He has published about 30 technical papers in National and International Journals
