Abstract
This paper deals with the modeling and
computation of rotational hysteresis core
losses in a rotating surface-mounted
permanent magnet (SMPM) machine.
Formulations of these losses taking into
account the rotational behaviour of the
magnetic field are developed. These
formulations are used together with the time
stepped finite element method to calculate
the hysteresis core losses in the considered
design according to the distribution of the
rotating magnetic field. The originality of
this work resides on the search of the
optimum number of directions to be used for
Vector Preisach model. This parameter has an
interesting impact on the magnetic intensity
value, and hence on the hysteresis loss
value. So it seems significant to optimize
this parameter by considering the two main
criteria: (i) accurate estimation of the
hysteresis iron losses, (ii) reasonable
computation time. In a first step, the
effect of the number of directions on the
hysteresis loss term has been investigated.
In a second step, the hysteresis losses,
considering the optimum number of directions
and the developed formulations have been
investigated. The calculated results are
discussed.
