Abstract

Reliable multicasting is an enhanced protocol of the existing ODMRP (On Demand Multicast Routing Protocol). Existing ODMRP follows the fixed route refresh time. Each node in reliable multicasting includes its direction and velocity along with its current position in the join query and forward it to the next node. Based upon the neighbor nodes direction, velocity and current position each node will predict the LET (Link Expiration Time) i.e., how long the two nodes will remain connected. Every node overwrites the direction field, velocity field, and current position field in the join query and relay it to the next node. This procedure is repeated by each forwarding node and the lowest LET value is included in the join query. The minimum most LET of the path that reaches the receiver is considered as the RET (Route Expiration Time). This RET is included in the join reply and forwarded to the source. The source node will select the maximum RET from the join replies and use this as the refreshing interval for the selected path. In our Reliable multicasting, the packet delivery ratio is increased to 45% and the control packet transmission is reduced to 28% compared to conventional ODMRP.
