Abstract:
Large volumes of fingerprints are collected
and stored every day in a wide range of applications,
including forensics, access control etc.,It is evident
from the database of Federal Bureau of Investigation
(FBI) which contains more than 70 million finger prints.
Wavelet based Algorithms for image Compression is most
successful in recent years. A new representation of
these 2D (Image) signals called as wavelet footprints
are the finite scale space vectors containing all the
wavelet coefficients generated by particular polynomial
discontinuities. Together with the scaling coefficients
(approximation), footprints can represent any piecewise
polynomial signals. Footprints are formed from the cone
of influence of the given signal’s discontinuity. In
this paper the focus is much on the novel compression
scheme by combining wavelet Footprints with Non-linear
Approximation (NLA). The results for the Compression
Algorithm based on wavelet footprints shows that there
is a gradual improvement in the Compression Ratio (CR)
and Peak Signal to Noise Ratio(PSNR) over the Set partitioning
in Hierarchical Trees (SPIHT) Algorithm.
