Title: GENETIC ALGORITHM BASED TEMPERATURE CONTROLLER FOR PLASTIC EXTRUSION SYSTEM

Abstract: Temperature control of plastic extrusion system suffers from problems related to undesirable overshoot, longer settling time and disturbances. PID tuning plays an important role in the complex process such as the temperature control of a plastic extrusion system. A number of temperature control process can be done using PID controllers. Most of the process is complex and nonlinear in nature resulting into their poor performance when controlled by traditional tuned PID controllers. Determination and tuning of the PID parameters continues to be important, as these parameters have a great influence on the stability and performance of the control system. This paper proposes Genetic Algorithm to improve the performance of the temperature control in plastic extrusion system. The methodology and efficiency of the proposed method are compared with that of traditional methods and the results obtained reflect that use of Genetic Algorithm based controllers improve the performance of the process in terms of time domain specification, set point tracking and disturbance rejection with optimum stability.
