| Abstract: | The output of state feedback optimal controllers has inherent errors which result in steady state errors, poor disturbance rejection and dynamic performance.
This paper proposes an integral plus state feedback optimal controller model for a three phase induction motor based on vector control algorithm. The proposed model is a variation of a state feedback optimal controller for a three phase induction motor. In the proposed control scheme, the state feedback controller is cascaded with an integrator. In both the state feedback and the integral plus state feedback control schemes, the nonlinear induction motor model has to be linearized which results in a steady state error in the output. The designed scheme mitigates inherent steady state errors, effects of plant disturbances and improves the dynamic performance. The performance of the proposed model and that of the state feedback optimal controller are compared on the basis of dynamic operation, steady state operation, and operation with disturbance injected to the plant. The simulation results indicate that the performance of the integral plus state feedback optimal controller is better compared to the state feedback optimal controller. In terms of dynamic performance, the test results show that the cascaded controller has a short settling time and less overshoot. The steady state error which exists in the regular controller is eliminated by the proposed model. The integral plus state feedback controller system rejects any noise introduced into the plant while the state feedback optimal controller does not reject the disturbance; rather it increases the steady state error after the injection of a disturbance to the plant.
