| Abstract: | The contribution of this research is in suggesting the
design of controllers that will improve the performance
of control systems with complex-conjugate poles in their
transfer function. As a case study, a closed-loop servo
control of a DC motor-load system is considered. There
is a flexible coupling between the mechanical elements in
the system, resulting in complex-conjugate poles in its
transfer function. Initially, a Bridged-T controller is
designed to compensate the system by removing its
original complex-conjugate poles. Next, a Phase-Lead
controller is implemented for further improvement of the
control system performance. Finally, with the addition of
a robust controller, the system becomes insensitive to its
parameter variations. The recommended design and
analysis is constructive and useful for the advancement of
control theory in this field.
