Title:
Ontology of multidiscipline knowledge portal enhancement
Authors:
Eman K. Elsayed
Abstract:
The unification of the scientific knowledge source is gaining ground and will provide knowledge base for scientific research in R&D centers. So the infrastructure of the R&D centers knowledge portal must be more intelligent. That by enhancement certain function in knowledge portal called contents(i.e. Organizing and structuring knowledge to enhance its use and to guide users to available knowledge resources). The suitable intelligent knowledge representation method is ontology based. Ontology based describe content, context and structure of the research materials. We faced a new challenge. It's variety of academic fields. That have given rise to an unprecedented phenomenon of technological convergence. Also reengineering ontology as merging more suitable for that technology. The case study is about design the NBIC (Nano-Bio-Info-Cogno) ontology which support the knowledge portal for nano research and development center. The importance of NBIC ontology comes from the fact that “all matter – living and non-living – originates at the nanoscale. So NBIC convergence integrates three main levels of material reality through nanotechnology; namely biology, computing, and neuroscience. And the ontology based is the suitable knowledge based representation for that new multidiscipline. NBIC ontology based faced the problem of conflict among the concepts in separated discipline ontology and the new multidiscipline ontology.
