Title: Developing Verb Phrase links for Marathi Link Grammar Parser

Abstract: Link Grammar formalism gives dependency based parsing schemes which models connection between single words and provides numerous advantages like high lexicalization, provision of constituent structure along with link information, ability to check morphological agreement between different constituents etc. Observing adaptability of Link grammar to languages like German, Russian, Turkish we have chosen it as underlying grammar for further work. In this paper we present links, proposed for the verb phrase of Marathi language by using notions of link grammar formalism. The link types for verbs like main or auxiliary has been proposed after developing links for noun phrase of Marathi language. The link types provide foundation to develop the link dictionary for parsing complete sentences of a language which is essential in Natural Language Processing Application. An example of verb phrases discussed in this paper with their linking shows applicability of Link Grammar.
