Title: Multi-Resolution Video Services over Passive Optical Networks

Abstract: Since the development of optical fiber, fiber-optic telecommunications, the personal computer (PC) and the internet, our lives have been dominated by bandwidth consumption. Although many of us do not realize it, daily activities that are now considered trivial consume a significant amount of bandwidth. PONs solutions must support data, voice and video delivery. The most demanding of these applications is the use of video especially high-definition television (HDTV) followed by standard-definition television (SDTV). In this paper, we present an efficient approach to support multi-resolution streams over Passive Optical Networks (PONs). This paper will assess the key considerations in selecting among alternatives PONs frameworks in order to efficient support multi-resolution multimedia streaming services.
