Title: Sleep Schedule based on Reliable Event Detection for Wireless Sensor-Actor Networks
Authors: N.A Vasanthi1 and S.Annadurai
Abstract: Wireless sensor-actor networks provide remote sensing of critical events and take appropriate control action. We propose a ‘Reliability-based Sleep schedule for the radio of the nodes for Efficient Control of parameters’ (R-SEC) in sensor-actor networks with a semi-automated architecture. When there is no event, sensor nodes send parameters less frequently with longer sleep time. If any parameter exceeds the set point, the corresponding nodes transmit more packets to the sink frequently based on its criticality. Sleep schedule is changed dynamically to activate the nodes in that area till the parameters are brought within the set point. Our approach is to (1) detect events reliably by varying the reporting frequency of nodes (2) trigger the control action with less latency (3) reduce the energy consumption by activating nodes only in the event area. We evaluate how the reporting frequency, event area etc. affect reliable event detection. Simulation results show that R-SEC protocol performs better than S-MAC by providing low latency and low energy consumption.
