| Abstract: | Inferring the topology of the Internet is not a trivial task due to the immense scale of the Internet, its continuous evolution, and its distributed administration. It consists in providing specific network topology information as characterizing the connectivity among network nodes, and determining the performance on their joining paths. At the same time, such topology information is of particular importance for network operators and users. It guarantees an efficient operation of the network, and a better tuning of its protocols and applications. We present, in this survey, an overview of the body of the literature that deals with Internet topology inference. We particularly focus on the approaches proposed for estimating the connectivity, the end-to-end delay, and available bandwidth among network nodes.
