Title: Content-Adaptive Temporal Error Concealment Scheme for H.264/AVC Video Communication

Abstract: This paper proposes a new temporal error concealment method for the H.264/AVC video coding standard, using the existing information of neighboring macroblock modes from the coded bit-stream. Up to eight partition types are selected adaptively for the initial concealment of a lost macroblock in the Inter frames. The lost macroblock is split into partitions of different block sizes, and each partition is concealed with an estimated motion vector. Post-processing of the initial concealed macroblock is performed using overlapped block motion compensation to maintain the spatial continuities in the concealed regions. This helps to minimize the structural degradations and the blocking artifacts. The proposed concealment algorithm achieves higher video quality values compared to the existing schemes.
