Authors:

Abstract:
Modeling background is an essential task for video surveillance applications. The procedure developed so far for tracking or identifying moving objects are based on the classification of pixels into either foreground or background ones. Background removal or background subtraction is the most common method to achieve this goal. Numerous background removal algorithms are available in the literature where most of them follow the important step background modeling by removing the background, which subsequently detect the foreground or moving objects. In the paper, different existing schemes of background modeling techniques in spatial and frequency domain. A new approach has been proposed in the paper to construct the background model in temporal domain, utilizing the coefficients of discrete wavelet transform (DWT). The proposed algorithm and the existing algorithms of background modeling in spatial and frequency domain are compared
